ARROWHEAD LEARNING CENTER PROGRAM
PROGRAM PURPOSE:
The purpose of the program is to provide a continuum of services that assures all S.I.E.D. (no acronyms please) and similarly disabled children (??), a free and appropriate public education. The program emphasizes special education and related services designed to meet student’s specific individual needs in accordance with their IEP’s. This therapeutic and special education alternative serves
all four (three) school districts and is in accordance with the Federal IDEA, Section 1400 guidelines. (??)
PROGRAM GOALS:
The Arrowhead Learning Center Program’s goal is to provide an individualized educational and therapeutic public school alternative as both a self-contained S.I.E.D. program and a prevention to out-of-home placement for children whose educational and emotional needs cannot be served within the home school setting (not true anymore). The program provides a variety of educational and therapeutic services for
children to improve their ability to function academically, behaviorally, and emotionally within their homes, schools, and communities. The objective is to successfully transition the students back into their regular public school setting, and to serve as a transition service for students transitioning home from out-of-home placements. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
Prior to admittance, all students must be staffed as S.I.E.D. with an Individualized Educational Plan.
DISTRICTS INVOLVED:
The Arrowhead Learning Center Program is a collaborative effort between Buena Vista School District, Lake County School District, Park County School District, Salida School District, West Central and Pikes Peak Mental Health Agencies, and the Departments of Social Services for Lake County, Chaffee County, and Park County.
FUNDING SOURCES:
District assessments, ECEA funds, IDEA and contributions from the Mental Health and Social Service Agencies involved.
Staff Involved:
One Licensed Teachers and three (one) Case Aides.
