TEACHER ON SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT




PROGRAM PURPOSE:
To assist the Special Education Directors to update BOCES special education materials, information and procedures and provide professional development opportunities to BOCES and member districts’ special education staffs.

PROGRAM GOALS:
To develop a standard IEP file folder to be used across all member districts.  To provide professional development inservices in the areas of writing standards based IEPs, manifestation hearings. To assist the Special Project Coordinator in developing Mountain BOCES special education information and materials to be published on the BOCES’ web page. To update special educations forms and manuals.  To conduct a special education staff study.  To conduct an analysis of trends and demographics of member districts and their special education students.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
The TOSA must possess knowledge of legal and program requirements of special education, standards based programs and instruction, ability to teach adult learners, experience with computerized IEPs and other software applications.

DISTRICTS INVOLVED:
All ten districts within the Mountain BOCES.

FUNDING SOURCES:
Funding for the one-year position, 2002-2003, is provided by Federal IDEA funds.

STAFF INVOLVED:
One licensed special education staff member.
