SEVERE NEEDS PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
PROGRAM GOALS:
To provide comprehensive educational services for students who require a significant level of support due to their multiple disabilities.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENT:
Students must be identified with a multiple disability which includes first a cognitive disability (IQ of 70 or below and/or with an Adaptive Behavior score at least 2 standard deviations below the norm) which qualifies them for the Significantly Limited Intellectual Cognitive disability category and in addition, demonstrates a significant discrepancy; in one of the following life skill domains: mobility, communication, self-help, and behavior that requires significant modifications and adaptations in order to function within the school or community environment.
DISTRICTS INVOLVED:
Any of the 10 districts in the Mountain BOCES who has a student who meets these requirements, and chooses to have the BOCES provide these services. (2002; at this time 2 districts choose this service)
FUNDING SOURCES:
ECEA, Assessments from the districts who use these services.
STAFF INVOLVED:
Severe needs teachers, paraprofessionals and related service providers as indicated by the students needs.
